How come there’s a Teflon Products and PVDF are such high priced plastics

In the last year, the industry has had more allocations than I have come across around my thirty years experience. In the past I have seen sharp price increases, and I have observed several shortages, and delivery problems due to material allocations from resin vendors. This is actually the first time I have seen all these issues at one time.

PTFE Sheet (TFE) and Kynar – PVDF are both on allocation.

These two resins are in short supply. The  PTFE Sheet product PTFE (TFE) and PVDF  manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar that’s mined in Mongolia and China. The world interest in this mineral has increased significantly, as well as supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high temperature resistance, excellent chemical resistance and really low co-efficient of friction (slippery) and is utilised within a good deal of purposes from non-stick fry cookware to ptfe tape for home use. This specific mineral is the key raw materials inside the manufacturing of fluoropolymers, fluorolubricants and many refrigerants. This escalating demand combined with shortage of raw materials has caused a dramatic price increase (almost double within the last year), shortages, and we expect these two factors to stay in affect in the near future.
